Coast Linen Services is an awesome company and it makes sense because of there 5 star customer service. I’ve been managing Esquína Latina for 3 years now and I’ve never had an issue. The driver Gabrielle as well is phenomenal, he will go above and beyond to ensure your order is correct. If your missing anything he will make sure you get it the next day. The restaurant has used them since they’ve been open (8 years) and will continue because loyalty is key and their entire company from top to bottom starting with Bobby who regularly checks in with me, are as loyal as they come .

I've done business with these guys for 8 years at all my restaurants. Service is second to none! Tony has been outstanding. At my newest restaurant I tried out a competitor of theirs, but shortly after opening I realized how inferior their service was compared to Coast. Only few months I reached out to Tony to make the switch. I recommend Coast Linen Svc. for all your linen needs and more.

I have been doing business with Coast Linen at Spain Inn Restaurant (Piscataway, NJ) and at Manolo Tapas (NYC) for almost 15 years and their service is incomparable. From their sales representatives (Bobby and Martin), office staff and delivery team. I could not ask for a more attentive, professional and personalized service. They carry an extensive product list and go out of their way to always have everything in stock. It makes our job so much easier knowing that they are always reliable.

History of Chef Uniforms: Why NYC Chefs Wear White

Think about what comes to mind when someone says “chef.” You probably see the white coat, the tall hat, maybe a clean apron. That image didn’t happen by accident; it’s rooted in centuries of culinary tradition.

Chef uniforms go way back, and here in New York City kitchens, wearing the whites is still about showing you’re serious about your craft. But it’s not all tradition. These uniforms also do a job: they keep cooks comfortable, protect them from burns and spills, and hold up through brutal 12-hour shifts.

Where It All Began

The modern chef apparel traces back to the early 1800s. French chef Marie-Antoine Carême wanted to elevate cooking from a trade into an art. He introduced the white double-breasted coat as a way to symbolize cleanliness and set standards that are still recognized today.

  • White meant clean: Stains showed quickly, so chefs could maintain strict hygiene.
  • The double-breast: Coats could be reversed to hide spills during service.

This combination created a uniform that was equal parts functional and symbolic.

Why White Still Matters in NYC Kitchens

New York City kitchens run hotter, faster, and busier than most. That makes the choice of white uniforms especially practical.

  • Keeps chefs cooler: white reflects heat, important under hot lights and open flames.
  • Signals professionalism: a neat coat shows discipline and attention to detail.
  • Supports hygiene: visible stains remind chefs to keep uniforms fresh and clean.

It’s no coincidence that in a city where diners demand perfection, chefs hold on to these standards.

Chef Apparel in the New York City Dining Scene Today

New York City has one of the most competitive restaurant industries in the wxorld. Presentation matters just as much in the kitchen as it does on the plate. A team dressed in coordinated, professional uniforms sends a message of consistency and excellence. Customers may never step into the kitchen, but they sense the results of a well-organized team.

For chefs, wearing white in New York is also about tradition. It connects today’s kitchens to centuries of culinary history. At the same time, modern apparel updates ensure that staff can move comfortably, handle heat, and work with efficiency.

Don’t Forget the Apron!

Aprons are another essential piece of kitchen apparel. They protect against splashes and spills while giving chefs extra coverage during long service hours.

Today’s aprons also add style. Many restaurants choose colors or cuts that match their brand identity. Coast Linen’s chef aprons combine:

  • Durability: Withstands heavy use in high-volume kitchens.
  • Comfort: Fits well without restricting movement.
  • Professional appearance: Ensures staff always looks sharp.

How Uniforms Boost Morale

Chef apparel is not just about appearances. It also supports the team. When every cook and chef puts on the same uniform, they feel part of something bigger. That sense of unity builds pride and motivation.

Restaurants that invest in quality uniforms often see:

  • Higher employee confidence.
  • Greater focus on the job.
  • Stronger teamwork in the kitchen.

With Coast Linen Services handling the uniforms, staff always has clean, comfortable apparel waiting for them. That consistency removes stress and allows teams to focus on the food.

Why Choose Coast Linen Services

Uniforms are not a one-time purchase. They need regular cleaning, repairs, and replacement. Handling all of that in-house takes valuable time away from running the restaurant. Coast Linen Services solves this problem with a professional uniform program.

  • Lightweight, breathable coats and aprons: perfect for hot NYC kitchens.
  • Reliable delivery: fresh apparel arrives on schedule, every time.
  • Flexible options: whether outfitting a single diner or a restaurant group.
  • 70+ years of experience: trusted by businesses in New York City, Philadelphia, and Newark.

But, Why Does It Still Matter?

Chefs in New York kitchens put in long hours, and their uniforms carry more weight than people realize. That crisp coat and apron do more than keep things tidy. They connect today’s chefs with a tradition that stretches back centuries while making the day-to-day grind more manageable.

When a restaurant invests in quality apparel, it’s not just buying fabric. It’s giving the team tools to stay cool under pressure, present a polished image, and feel confident while they cook.

That’s where Coast Linen Services comes in. With decades of experience serving restaurants across New York City, Philadelphia, and Newark, Coast Linen makes sure every chef walks into the kitchen ready for the shift ahead. Durable coats, comfortable aprons, and dependable service mean fewer headaches and a sharper look where it counts.
